A strong nation is not necessarily bound to seek hegemony (2)

Email|Print

Other countries are welcome to hitch a ride on China's "express train". When facing the Asia Financial Crisis and International Financial Crisis, China shouldered its responsibilities and played its role as a major country in keeping macroeconomic policy stable and actively cooperating with other countries. China realized its commitments to join the WTO, build an open economy, liberalize and facilitate trade and investment, oppose local protectionism in any form, and stimulate the development of world trade and the global economy.

China advocates a joint, comprehensive, cooperative, and sustainable security concept where countries around the world cooperate and share with each other. China's defense policy is defensive in nature, and its military expenditures represents less than 1.5 percent of GDP — very low by world standards. China actively takes part in international peacekeeping operations - it is the permanent member that has sent out the greatest numbr of peace-keeping personnel on UN missions. China also sticks to dialogue and consultation to solve international disputes.

The "Belt and Road" initiative that China has put forward is based on the idea of peaceful development and cooperative win-win, aimed at combining China's interests and the interests of the world. The Belt and Road is not exclusive but inclusive and open; it welcomes any other countries to participate in the program. It does not contradict other policies like the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank. Instead, the Belt and Road is compatible with, and even supportive of other developmental projects and policies.

China now is marching on the bright road of peaceful development and national revitalization, hoping and welcoming other countries all to join together and break the pedantic logic of a strong national is necessarily bound to seek hegemony.
