Wang, Moregard triumph in WTT Champions Montpellier
PARIS, Nov. 3 (Xinhua) -- Third seed Wang Yidi of China edged German veteran Sabine Winter in seven games to win the women's singles title, while Sweden's Truls Moregard swept Japan's Sora Matsushima in the men's final at the World Table Tennis (WTT) Champions Montpellier on Sunday.
Earlier in the day, both finalists beat South Korean opponents in the semifinals. Wang defeated Joo Cheon-hui 4-2, and Winter overcame Shin Yu-bin 4-1.
Winter started faster in the final, taking the first two games 11-8, 12-10. Wang responded with 11-5 and 11-4 to level the match. Winter moved back in front with an 11-6 fifth game, but Wang forced a decider with a 12-10 sixth and closed out the title 11-9.
Moregard reached the men's final by beating home favorite Alexis Lebrun 4-1, then defeated Matsushima in straight games, 11-9, 11-8, 11-7, 11-9.
Matsushima, 18, had beaten South Korea's Jang Woo-jin 4-1 in the semifinals but could not maintain that form in the final.
