HEIDELBERG, Germany, Nov. 2 (Xinhua) -- The Second China-Europe Scientists Forum is held here on Saturday and Sunday with an aim to explore the possibility of deepening scientific and technological cooperation between China and Europe.

Hundreds of scientists, scholars, and business representatives from China and Europe engaged in in-depth discussions on cutting-edge fields such as artificial intelligence, ICT transformation, control engineering, and sustainable systems at the forum.

In addition to keynote speeches, the forum consists of a series of online and offline parallel sessions, covering topics such as AI and advanced manufacturing, ICT transformation, translational and clinical medicine, carbon neutrality and new energy, and China-Europe sci-tech global strategies.

Zhou Jie, rotating president of the Federation of Chinese Professional Associations in Europe (FCPAE), said that the community of Chinese scientists is increasingly transitioning from "followers" to "contributors".

Zhou voiced his hope that the forum would serve as a "connector" linking the scientific minds of China and Europe, an "accelerator" for the transformation of knowledge and technology, and an "incubator" for nurturing the ideas of young talents.

Zhou Zhiqiang, the Education Counselor at the Chinese Embassy in Germany, emphasized in his speech that sci-tech exchanges have always been an important bridge connecting China and Europe.

Confronted with global challenges, Chinese and European scientists must join hands and address them through joint efforts, said Zhou, adding that there is great potential for cooperation between the two sides in fields such as artificial intelligence, biomedicine, and climate change.
