India's ruling party BJP names Radhakrishnan as candidate for country's VP post

NEW DELHI, Aug. 18 (Xinhua) -- India's ruling party, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), has fielded C.P. Radhakrishnan, currently the governor of the southwestern state of Maharashtra, as the federal alliance's candidate for the post of the country's vice president, an election for which was scheduled for Sept. 9.
Presently, the BJP leads the ruling National Democratic Alliance (NDA), a group of political parties.
If elected, Radhakrishnan would be India's 15th vice president.
