Cotton yarn train services cut logistics costs in China's Xinjiang
URUMQI, July 20 (Xinhua) -- Railway authorities in northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, the country's foremost producer of high-quality cotton, have increased transport capacity and launched dedicated cotton yarn train services, according to China Railway Urumqi Group Co., Ltd.
To ensure efficient transportation of cotton textiles, two fixed train routes have been established in southern Xinjiang, with one linking Aksu and the Yangtze River Delta region in the eastern coast and the other connecting Aksu (and Kashgar) with the Pearl River Delta region in the south.
Over 200 fixed train services have been provided, covering more than 20 railway destinations in five provincial regions including Shanghai, Jiangsu and Guangdong.
To strengthen the cotton and textile industry chain, local railway personnel also visited areas like Shihezi and Kuytun in northern Xinjiang, and developed customized logistics plans for scattered textile enterprises, offering one-on-one professional technical support and full-process tracking for loading and shipment.
"Through close cooperation with Urumqi Railway logistics center, dedicated trains from northern Xinjiang are expected to cut transport time by more than half from 14 days to 6 days, further enhancing the market competitiveness of Xinjiang's cotton textile products," said Li He, general manager of a supply chain management company.
Xinjiang railways have consolidated scattered cotton textile shipments to help enterprises reduce logistics costs, with shipments of cotton yarn, cotton cloth and other cotton textiles having reached 234,000 tonnes so far this year.
