ACCRA, July 9 (Xinhua) -- Chinese Ambassador to Ghana Tong Defa said Tuesday that bilateral trade between Ghana and China grew by 7.1 percent year-on-year to 11.8 billion U.S. dollars in 2024.

Speaking at the launch ceremony of activities marking the 65th anniversary of bilateral ties between the two countries, Tong said this significant growth is a testament to the strong economic bonds between China and Ghana.

"Our economic bond keeps strengthening. China remains Ghana's largest trading partner and a major source of foreign investment," he said.

Moreover, the ambassador said that hundreds of Chinese enterprises have invested in sectors such as infrastructure, manufacturing, mining, aviation, green energy and oil refining in Ghana, creating substantial employment opportunities while advancing local industrialization.

Tong said the friendship between the two countries has thrived over the past 65 years, thanks to the continuous efforts of successive governments. "Our political mutual trust continues to deepen," he said.

He also highlighted the ever-growing people-to-people exchanges between the two nations and lauded the Ghana-China Friendship Association (GHACHIFA) for its contribution to deepening the friendly ties.

GHACHIFA Chairman Anani Demuyakor said that the growing popularity of Chinese language learning in Ghanaian schools is gradually breaking the language barrier between Ghanaians and their Chinese counterparts.

"In the next few years, we will work to deepen the mutual understanding between Ghanaians and Chinese living in Ghana," Demuyakor said.
