SW China's Yunnan sees spectacular butterfly explosion

Thousands of butterflies recently lined the banks of the Shicai River in Jianchuan county, Dali Bai Autonomous Prefecture, in southwest China's Yunnan Province. At the slightest breeze, clusters of butterflies flutter into the air, gracefully dancing above the river and creating a breathtaking spectacle.

Each May, just before the rainy season begins, large numbers of butterflies gather along both sides of the valley, stretching from the Shicai River to the base of Laojun Mountain. This forms a continuous display of butterflies for more than 10 kilometers.
