Expert hails mutually beneficial trade ties between Guinea-Bissau, China
BISSAU, May 20 (Xinhua) -- Trade relations between Guinea-Bissau and China are favorable and mutually beneficial, and both countries should deepen their cooperation, Bubacar Mane, a Guinea-Bissau expert in foreign trade, has said.
"I advise national authorities to fully harness China's economic potential to strengthen human capacity and import Chinese technologies," he told Xinhua on Monday, encouraging Chinese entrepreneurs to invest in Guinea-Bissau, particularly in cashew nut processing and the fisheries sector.
"Chinese investors should step up their presence in these two key sectors, which are crucial for our country's economic development," Mane emphasized, noting that "China is a major market, and its cooperation is essential for Guinea-Bissau."
According to the expert, Bissau-Guinean authorities must also adopt strategies to protect Chinese investments and mitigate the impact of any potential trade conflict between China and the United States.
"Chinese products are affordable and significantly help reduce poverty in Guinea-Bissau," he noted, advocating for Guinea-Bissau to "export timber and fish to China by taking advantage of zero-tariff opportunities."
Highlighting the progress Chinese companies have made in Guinea-Bissau, Mane called on the government to deepen cooperation with China in education and technology, areas where "China serves as a model."
