The Civil Aviation Administration of China (CAAC) has taken effective and specific measures such as the installation of high efficiency particle air (HEPA) filters on passenger aircraft to contain the spread of the novel coronavirus.
Preventive and control measures have been taken on passenger aircraft, such as strengthening aircraft ventilation and disinfection, carrying out on-board health inspections, optimizing on-board services, and clarifying emergency handling procedures for passengers with fever, according to Zhu Tao, director of the air transportation division of the CAAC, at a press conference on Feb. 12.
With regards to aircraft ventilation and disinfection, special operational guidelines have been formulated to ensure maximum air volume during flight in order to ensure safety.
At the same time, operating procedures for the cleaning and disinfection of the aircraft environment have been standardized to ensure their effectiveness. Furthermore, experts are intensifying their research, based on the characteristics of the novel coronavirus, in order to provide a variety of effective products for aircraft disinfection.
In addition, measures have been taken to strengthen ventilation and disinfection at airports. Temperature monitoring is being conducted on incoming and outgoing passengers, and masks are being properly disposed of after use.
In particular, to improve airport ventilation, practical measures are being taken to strengthen air circulation in combination with terminal structure, layout and local climatic conditions.
"At present, almost all passenger aircraft in China are equipped with HEPA filters. The efficiency of HEPA filter for pollution particles with a diameter of 0.3 microns is 99.9 percent, which can effectively filter out pathogenic microorganisms, greatly reducing the possibility of virus transmission on the plane. So please rest assured that we can provide you with a safe onboard environment," said Zhu Tao.
Moreover, CAAC has also formulated technical guidelines for the prevention and control security personnel, so as to ensure their cleanliness and hygiene.
"We are taking all measures to create a safe and comfortable travel environment for passengers,” said Zhu Tao, adding that passengers should cooperate with the airlines to carry out security checks, temperature checks and other related work.
