Independent games developed by Chinese firms continued to dominate market sales in China in 2019, with sales revenue reaching 189.5 billion yuan, up 15.3 percent from 2018, according to a joint report by the Game Publishers Association Publications Committee and market research firm IDC.
In overseas markets, the sales revenue of China-developed games stood at $11.6 billion in 2019, surging 21 percent, a higher sales revenue growth than within the Chinese market.
The report showed that role-playing games, strategy games and multiplayer online battle arenas were the most popular among overseas players.
The U.S., Japan and South Korea’s gaming companies accounted for the highest proportion of games revenue worldwide, reaching 67.5 percent.
