CHANGSHA, Dec. 23 -- Construction on the world's largest transparent-domed bar began on Tuesday in Zhangjiajie, the central Chinese city known for its pillar-like mountains.
The 21,000 square meter Cloud Top Bar in the city in Hunan Province will be able to accommodate 3,800 people, according to Qian Yaolong, chair of Zhangjiajie Cloud Top Culture Industry Development Co. Ltd, the investor.
The bar, which is in the downtown of the city, is a short drive from Zhangjiajie National Forest Park. The UNESCO world heritage site is said to have influenced the scenery in the animated film "Avatar."
The company has invested 220 million yuan (34 million U.S. dollars) in the flying-saucer-like bar, so called as it features a 45 meter diameter transparent dome, said Qian.
Slated to open in August 2016, customers will be able to sip their drinks while experiencing futuristic lighting effects, holographic projections, robot waiters and music performances, according to Qian.
The company signed a strategic cooperation agreement with Hunan Provincial Musicians Association on Tuesday to establish the bar as an international music performance venue.
