XINING, Sept. 12 -- A new civil airport will open on China's Qinghai-Tibet Plateau by the end of this year, authorities with Qinghai Airport Co., Ltd. said Saturday.
Located in Golog Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture of Qinghai Province, the airport site is at an altitude of 3,500 meters. The airport will feature a 3,800-meter-long runway and a 3,000-square-meter terminal, and construction will be completed by the end of October.
Three air routes will connect Golog to Qinghai's capital of Xining, Lhasa City in Tibet, and Chengdu City in Sichuan Province after the airport is put into use by the end of this year.
The civil airport will be the sixth in Qinghai and the first in Golog, according to the company.
Golog boasts rich ecological and tourist resources. The new airport is expected to make travel more convenient for tourists and scientific researchers who come to the prefecture.
