Gelatin-injected Shrimp Appear in China’s Fish Markets Again

Email|Print

To make shrimps bigger and heavier, unethical vendors have been reportedly injecting industrial-grade gelatin in shrimps to sell in many parts of China.

Recently, the Gelatin shrimps appeared again in two cities, Kun Ming in the northwest of China’s Yunnan Province and Wenzhou in the eastern China.

As an example, by injecting the glue like stuff into shrimps, vendors can make 30 percent more profit, or 43 yuan ($7.1) extra gain per kilogram of tiger shrimp sold.

Sea horses and sea cucumbers are also found to be injected with gelatin.

The government has banned this illegal act and has cracked down the sellers.
