Carbon dioxide emissions per unit of GDP declined 33.8 percent in 2014 comparing to the amuont in 2005. This improvement vigorously promotes the sustainable development of China's economy and society and is making a great contribution to the global campaign against climate change, according to Li Gao, Deputy Director of climate change affairs at China's National Development and Reform Commission.

China will not only work for securing its carbon intensity target for the twelfth Five-Year Plan period, but also set up a target to control carbon emissions during the thirteenth Five -Year plan, added Li Gao. It means that China is now aiming to reduce 2005 levels of carbon dioxide intensity by 40-45 percent by 2020.
