The first phase of the comprehensive bonded zone at Guangzhou Baiyun Airport was put into operation on Tuesday, People's Daily reported on Wednesday.

Covering a floor area of more than 55,000 square meters, the bonded zone has attracted more than 200 enterprises and its business covers airport operation, bonded warehousing, bonded processing, cross-border e-commerce business and more.

The bonded zone boasts the highest opening level just next to the FTA. Firms here will enjoy most preferential policies concerning tax, customs supervision and processing trade.

The zone will gradually develop into an export-oriented gathering zone for airport-based economy.

Cross-border e-commerce is an important business here. At present there are six enterprises engaged in cross-border ecommerce in the zone. The bonded zone has handled 17,000 cross-border e-commerce transactions covering more than 30,000 kinds of commodities.
